Aloha! Welcome! I'm Ken Yap. Music has been a major part of my life since I can remember. I played the ukulele at age 4 in the streets of Maui,Hawaii...playing local tunes...listening to the slack guitar key of the Hawaiina sound.At age 8, I started playing the piano accordian. My father was a Lawrence Welk fan. During this period is where I learned to read music. Then one day at age 11 or 12 I picked up my brothers guitar that sat in the corner of the house for so many years and found that my small hands could reach all the strings when held. I broke my piggy bank open, ran to the nearest music store and bought a guitar chord book and from that moment on I was hooked. I taught myself how to play guitar. I didn't know it then but my life would forever be changed. I ate,drank, and slept guitar...learning how to play all my favorite songs at the time off those old vinyl lp's,45's,78's....remember those?? I played all genres from top40 to heavy metal...what ever sounded good and that I enjoyed. I was in and out of bands during my teens, constantly looking for someone my age who wanted to create their own music with no luck. Then I joined the U.S. Navy where some of us sailors formed a band called "General Quarters". We kept moral up by entertaining at Steel Beach. Then of course marriage. Somewhere in my midtwenties I stopped playing covers, got caught up in the daily routines of life. But I never stopped playing my guitar. Istarted to search for my own sound...and started writing more tunes. Through all the years, both good and bad, the need to play guitar never left me. I have developed my own sound and style of which you are now hearing. I thank the Lord Jesus for giving me this gift in which I now can share with you through todays technology. Thank you so much for taking the time for us to share bits of time with each other. And I hope you enjoy my music as much as I enjoyed creating it for you. Take Care!! Keep the faith!! and Rock On!!!
